The House of Representatives has the opportunity to pass an outdoor recreation package called the EXPLORE Act! This is a bipartisan bill aimed at promoting equity, inclusion, and expanded access to the outdoors for all Americans.

The EXPLORE Act (H.R. 6492), a bipartisan bill, is legislation that would provide outdoor access to so many people across the country. There are many aspects of the bill that would significantly improve the nature access of your constituents. Some examples include: legislation to help get more veterans outdoors into nature for healing, and strengthening the Every Kid Outdoors program for more children and families to have nature access. Moreover, this legislation includes the Outdoors for All Act, which establishes a grant-funding program to get more communities access to outdoor activities and green spaces. Here are some highlights that the EXPLORE Act would make possible: More generations of children will be able to connect with nature through the Every Kid Outdoors program. This program provides free access to federal public lands and waters for fourth graders – the EXPLORE Act would reauthorize the Every Kid Outdoors program for seven years. The package includes provisions from the Military Veterans in Parks Act and Get Rewarding Outdoor Work for our Veterans Act, promoting opportunities and enhancing outdoor recreation experiences for veterans and active duty members on federal lands. These sections of legislation would improve signage and disability access, include a jobs pilot program for veterans at the Department of the Interior, and create the Military Veterans Outdoor Recreation Liaison. The Outdoors for All Act would provide funding for outdoor recreation sites in economically disadvantaged communities through the Outdoors Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP) program. The Simplifying Outdoor Access for Recreation Act would simplify and streamline permitting processes for guides, outfitters, outdoor leaders and nonprofit organizations. This would reduce barriers that communities and organizations can face in organizing outdoor excursions and facilitating access to nature. Please pass the EXPLORE Act and support it going to the House floor as soon as possible.
