The New York State Assembly dropped the ball in the recently concluded 2026 legislative session on a lot of important climate and environmental initiatives that passed the Senate but died on the vine in the lower house. In spite of this, both houses were able to find agreement on a small group of bills aimed at constraining a number of harmful contaminants and chemicals in our environment, and we need your support as these bills make their way to the Governor’s desk:
- Drinking Water Standards for PFAS Chemicals: A.8634-B (Lee)/ S.3207-B (Kavanagh): Establishes maximum contaminant levels and a hazard index in drinking water for certain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
- PFAS Discharge Disclosure Act: A.5832-B (Kelles)/S.4574-B (May): Requires some water discharge permit holders to monitor PFAS content and disclose the results.
- Healthy Homes Right to Know Act: A.73-B (Solages)/ S.1280-B (Krueger): Relates to the labeling requirements for gas stoves.
Now we need the Governor to sign these bills into law! Send a message to Governor Hochul today urging action on these important pieces of legislation that will help reduce the number of toxic chemicals in our bodies, air, water, and communities.
