Oceanside was one of the last cities in our region to adopt a Climate Action Plan (CAP) in May 2019. It’s been over a year and the CAP hasn’t been implemented yet.
On June 17, the City Council will vote on 4 ordinances to establish requirements for new developments that will finally enact a small part of the CAP. The ordinances will require that new development projects include transportation demand management plans, renewable energy, tree planting (urban forestry) and electric vehicle charging facilities.
Your voice is incredibly important to put the ACTION into the Oceanside Climate Action Plan.
To create a better future, all of us need to speak up for climate action in our city. We need to tell the City Council this matters and that we care.

Support the Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Ordinance. This would require new non-residential developments that create more than 50 daily vehicle trips to reduce single occupancy vehicle (SOV) trips to 80%.
Support the Renewable Energy Ordinance which requires some new commercial developments and industrial development to meet 50% of energy demand with on-site renewable energy.
Support an Urban Canopy ordinance. This ordinance proposes that new development have a 7-9% minimum tree canopy and 12% tree canopy for 1 acre or more.
Support the Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure ordinance. At least half of the designated parking spaces must have EV charging stations when projects exceed thresholds.
Support the establishment of a CAP Stakeholder Committee with residents and representatives from business and environmental groups. A Stakeholder Committee would expand outreach and involve the entire community in the success of the CAP.
It is critical that our city do everything it can to ensure a safe and livable future for ourselves and future generations.
