We have told you about Governor Newsom’s budgetary proposal for the upcoming fiscal year- but it’s looking like the trailer bills will likely stay included with the budget package and may be voted on Sunday June 15, Father’s Day! Trailer bills often get separated and we could have more time to fight them, but not this time. We only have one week left to stop them!
Governor Newsom recently published his budgetary proposal for the upcoming fiscal year. The Governor’s May Revision trailer bill proposals seek to fast-track the Delta Conveyance Project (Delta Tunnel) and sabotage the Bay Delta Water Quality Control Plan (Bay-Delta Plan) through the state budget process. These trailer bills would circumvent water law, environmental protections, public participation, and due process to advance one of California's most destructive and expensive projects: the Delta Tunnel. The bills would expand eminent domain authority to seize land for tunnel construction as well as cement funding mechanisms without transparent oversight or accountability to taxpayers. At the same time, they would undercut water quality standards for the San Francisco Bay-Delta estuary, which are embodied in the Bay-Delta Plan.
