California State Parks is considering concept plans for 3,100 acres of culturally important and environmentally unique land in Alameda County known as Tesla Park. This land is home to a number of endangered species, landscapes integral to indigenous cultures, and an integrated, intact ecosystem.
We need your help to tell State Parks that it must consider a plan to provide the strongest protections possible to this land by classifying it as a state Natural Reserve.
In late September, California State Parks held 2 workshops to present their concept plans for the land in Tesla Park. Unfortunately, neither plan protects Tesla’s extraordinary resources of statewide significance and would not ensure effective, lasting protection. Both plans would allow for high-intensity recreation, such as vehicular travel, bikes/e-bikes, and camping, and associated facility development throughout almost all of Tesla’s 3,100 acres. These plans would fracture Tesla’s intact ecosystem.
Classifying these lands as a Natural Reserve is the only option that best protects all of Tesla’s irreplaceable natural and cultural resources, while still allowing low-intensity recreation that will allow Californians to appreciate this unique ecosystem.
Send an email to State Parks NOW demanding they provide a Natural Reserve plan for Tesla that complies with the statute!
