Backed by a dark money group, Advance Colorado, if passed, this ballot initiative will enshrine a major source of climate pollution in the state constitution.
With a confusing name and misleading definition, the ballot amendment 82 is unnecessary and motivated by big, shady corporations that want to take a hacksaw to our constitution for their benefit, with potentially far-reaching and unintended consequences. It would limit the ability for state and local governments to pass and enforce a wide range of policies that help keep us safe, make homes and buildings more energy efficient, improve air quality, and reduce climate-destabilizing emissions.
Ultimately, this so called "right" will make it harder to reduce indoor and outdoor air pollution and meet Colorado’s climate objectives, including net zero statewide emissions by 2050. Experts have repeatedly found that reducing reliance on methane gas by supporting voluntary adoption of electrification technologies, like heat pumps, is one of the most cost-effective ways to make necessary emission reductions. By interfering with these cost-effective policies in far-reaching and unpredictable ways, ballot amendment 82 would needlessly make securing a livable climate much harder and more expensive.
Join us in pledging to VOTE NO on this in November!
