Please tell the Air Quality Control Commission to adopt Regulation 7 standards to help cut emissions, improve air quality, and address the region’s severe ozone challenges. Sign today!
The Air Quality Control Commission's (AQCC) main priority is to protect the people and places of Colorado from the harms of air pollution. Since taking office in 2025, the Trump administration has undermined the Commission's efforts by consistently eroding environmental protections, including those around methane and air pollution. The best thing states can do to enshrine these soon-to-be-lost federal protections is to adopt state-level regulations preserving nationally approved methane standards.
The adoption of these standards by the AQCC will not only ensure meaningful reductions of methane and air pollution across Colorado, but also send an important message to all other states and the Trump administration that state action is possible. Once complete, Colorado will become the only state to fully adopt national methane standards, cementing its status as the national leader on methane emissions.
The AQCC has a responsibility to protect the health of Coloradans and the integrity of the state’s environment. As the US EPA fails to enforce methane rules, delays implementation of state plans, and actively forfeits its obligation to protect Americans, Colorado cannot rely on federal regulations to serve the best interests of its residents.
The Colorado Sierra Club and partners are calling on the Air Quality Control Commission (AQCC) to vote yes at the September 16th rulemaking on regulations 7 to ensure that the highest methane standards in the country are adopted. By supporting these important protections, Colorado is not only helping reduce methane emissions, one of the most powerful greenhouse gases, but establishing itself as a clear leader to the rest of the country on air quality standards.
