Connecticut Earth Day 2025: Take Action to Protect Our Environment

On the first Earth Day in 1970, millions of Americans took to the streets, demanding action to protect our planet. Their voices led to landmark environmental policies such as the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency. Now, 55 years later, we find ourselves facing a triple crisis: climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental injustice.

As federal policies threaten to roll back critical environmental protections, Connecticut must take the lead in defending clean air, clean water, and investments in renewable energy. This Earth Day, we must send a clear message that our state is committed to progress, not regression. We will stand strong against federal rollbacks and push for bold, local action that ensures a just and sustainable future.

Take Action Now! Urge Governor Lamont and your legislators to commit to:

  1. Strengthen Climate Action: Uphold and expand Connecticut’s renewable energy goals, and stop dangerous carbon-polluting pipeline and infrastructure proposals, ensuring our state remains a leader in transitioning to a carbon-free future.
  2. Defend Clean Air and Water Protections: Resist federal rollbacks and enforce strong state-level safeguards for air and water quality.
  3. Invest in Biodiversity and Ecosystem Protection: Support policies that protect our forests, wetlands, and wildlife from habitat destruction and climate-related threats.
  4. Advance Environmental Justice: Prioritize the needs of frontline communities disproportionately affected by pollution, extreme weather, and systemic inequities.
  5. Accelerate a Just Transition: Ensure workers and communities impacted by the shift from fossil fuels to clean energy are supported with economic and workforce development programs.

Together, we can ensure that Earth Day 2025 is not just a celebration, but a turning point for meaningful action.

Fifty-five years ago, the first Earth Day ignited a movement that led to landmark environmental policies like the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency. Today, we face a new and urgent crisis—climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental injustice—that threatens our communities and our future. At a time when federal policies are rolling back critical environmental protections, Connecticut must take the lead. We need bold state action to safeguard clean air and water, accelerate the transition to renewable energy, and ensure a just and sustainable future for all. This Earth Day, I urge you to commit to real climate leadership by advancing policies that: - Strengthen Climate Action – Expand Connecticut’s renewable energy goals, and stop dangerous carbon-polluting pipeline and infrastructure proposals, to transition to a carbon-free future. - Defend Clean Air and Water Protections – Resist federal rollbacks and uphold strong state-level safeguards for public health. - Invest in Biodiversity and Ecosystem Protection – Protect forests, wetlands, and wildlife from climate-related threats and habitat destruction. - Advance Environmental Justice – Center the needs of frontline communities disproportionately affected by pollution and climate change. - Accelerate a Just Transition – Support workers and communities impacted by the shift from fossil fuels to clean energy with economic and workforce development programs. We cannot afford inaction. The first Earth Day mobilized millions and led to lasting environmental progress—this Earth Day, we must rise to the challenge again. Connecticut has an opportunity to lead, but only if you commit to bold and urgent climate action. I hope to hear back from you.
