Stop SB 178: Don’t Tie Kentucky’s Hands on Environmental Protections

Senate Bill 178 would weaken Kentucky’s ability to protect public health and the environment by preventing state agencies from adopting safeguards that go beyond federal minimum standards.

In effect, SB 178 would make the federal floor Kentucky’s ceiling — even when our state faces unique threats like drinking water contamination, flooding risks, coal mining impacts, and industrial pollution.

Kentuckians deserve the freedom to set strong protections for clean air, safe water, and healthy communities. SB 178 would tie the hands of state agencies and make it harder to respond to emerging environmental threats.

Tell your legislator: Vote NO on SB 178.

I am a constituent writing to urge you to vote NO on SB 178. This bill would prevent Kentucky from adopting environmental and public health protections that go beyond federal minimum standards. That would severely limit our state’s ability to respond to local threats such as drinking water contamination, flooding risks, coal mining impacts, and industrial pollution. Kentucky should not be forced to settle for the bare minimum when it comes to protecting our air, water, and communities. We need the flexibility to address emerging risks and safeguard public health. Please stand with Kentuckians and vote NO on SB 178.
