Tell the DC Council: Protect Sustainable Energy Trust Fund Funding

For the last three years, Mayor Bowser’s budget proposals stripped funding set aside for low-income households to upgrade their homes under the Healthy Homes Act. Amid DC’s compounding crises of housing unaffordability, childhood asthma, and climate change, the District cannot afford to raid funding that directly supports DC’s most vulnerable families to lower utility bills. We have every reason to believe that this year’s budget proposal by the Mayor will try to raid these funds again. Tell the DC Council: Protect funding for the Healthy Homes Act!

Dear Councilmember, For the past several years, Mayor Bowser has attempted to raid the Sustainable Energy Trust Fund (SETF) and deny DC’s low- and middle-income households the opportunity to reduce their utility bills and improve indoor air quality by transitioning off fossil fuels. We have every reason to believe that again Mayor Bowser will seek to snatch that money away from DC’s most vulnerable families in this year’s budget. As a DC resident concerned about climate pollution from fossil fuels, rising utility bills, indoor air pollution from burning gas in our homes, and years of housing unaffordability in DC, I ask you to commit to restoring any funding raided from the Sustainable Energy Trust Fund in the Council’s budget.
