Tell Your Legislators: Say YES to Energy Transparency and Accountability and NO to False Solutions

Earlier this year, after a particularly cold winter in Delaware, countless Delmarva Power customers received significantly costlier energy bills at a time when the cost of living is ballooning all across the country. Now is the time for us to let our legislators know where we stand on these pressing energy issues.

We hope that you can use this tool to send a personalized note to your elected officials to share your support for policies that push real solutions like pushing back against massive rate hikes, creating programs to help Delawareans in the time of need, and holding PJM and utilities accountable. We also need them to push back against false solutions that wrongfully target renewable energy and existing programs that support our most vulnerable residents in Delaware.

At such a difficult time for our State and it's residents, it cannot be ignored that some took this opportunity to spread disinformation against renewable energy and attack programs that support low income residents. Now is the time for us to cut through this mess and support bills that will address actual weaknesses in the system instead of fueling these false fires.

After watching the discussions around our energy system unfold this year, I want to urge you to support upcoming bills that seek to improve transparency and accountability from utilities, protect ratepayers from costly and unjustified spikes on their bills, and work to resolve the strain that me and my fellow Delawareans have been experiencing regarding energy bills. Now is the time for us to push for real solutions that will help real Delawareans. That includes utilizing funding to help those who need it most by strengthening and expanding on our existing programs, ensuring that all of our utilities are acting in the best interests of their customers, and protecting our most vulnerable populations during extreme weather events. At the same time, it is important that we are pushing back against false solutions that aim to attack clean and cost-effective renewable energy while attempting to roll back years of progress towards a cleaner and more equitable energy system. The attacks on programs like the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) that invest in bill assistance, energy efficiency, and electrification projects that support low and moderate income customers are especially concerning during such a vulnerable time for Delawareans. It is my hope that you can work to protect this critical program and others from any bills that seek to capitalize on this moment for their own political agenda. These issues go beyond Delmarva Power customers and have highlighted existing and worsening weaknesses in our energy system. I urge you to use this moment to help strengthen our grid, provide relief and transparency to ratepayers, and push back against harmful false solutions.
