Stop Using Plastic Bags, Publix!

Our planet is drowning in plastic! As of 2015, 8,300 million metric tons of plastic had been produced and only 9% was recycled (12% incinerated and 79% in landfills or our environment). Americans use and dispose of over 100 billion single use plastics bags annually. On average single-use plastic bags are used for 12 minutes and only about 5% are recycled.

Be part of the solution and sign below to ask Publix to eliminate single-use plastic bags in their stores now!

Plastic bags end up in rivers, lakes, and oceans where they are a huge hazard to marine and wildlife. Florida, surrounded by ocean, provides a direct channel of plastics into our marine environments. Plastic does not biodegrade in our environment, instead breaking up into smaller and smaller pieces through photodegradation. Because plastic pollution is a major problem in our inland waterways and in the oceans, major chain supermarkets are taking action. Kroger, the nation's largest grocery chain, has already committed to phasing out all single-use plastic bags. By 2025, ALDI has pledged that all packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable. Publix, will you follow Kroger’s lead and eliminate the use of single-use plastic bags at check out?
