Tell JEA/St Johns WMD - Water First Means PFAS Last

Take Action: Put Science Before Wastewater

The Water First North Florida project would transport millions of gallons of treated wastewater from the Jacksonville area into the Suwannee River Basin to recharge the Floridan Aquifer—the source of drinking water for millions of Floridians and the water that feeds our iconic springs.

Before this project moves forward, we need independent scientific proof that PFAS ("forever chemicals"), pharmaceuticals, and other emerging contaminants will not accumulate in or contaminate our aquifer, springs, rivers, and drinking water. Once these pollutants enter the Floridan Aquifer, there is no practical way to remove them.

Our aquifer is too important to become a wastewater experiment. Protecting clean water also protects our health, our wildlife, and North Florida's outdoor economy.

Tell the St. Johns River Water Management District and JEA to put science first. Ask them to remove the Water First North Florida project from consideration until independent, peer-reviewed research demonstrates it is safe for our aquifer and springs.

Add your voice today—because once our groundwater is contaminated, there is no turning back.

Dear Members of the St. Johns River Water Management District Governing Board and JEA Board of Directors, I am asking you to remove the Water First North Florida project from consideration until independent scientific research shows that it will not contaminate the Floridan Aquifer with PFAS ("forever chemicals"), pharmaceuticals, and other emerging contaminants. The Floridan Aquifer supplies drinking water to millions of Floridians and feeds the springs, rivers, and wetlands that make North Florida so special. Once contaminants enter the aquifer, they may remain there for generations. I support finding better ways to manage Florida's water, but those solutions should not put our drinking water or springs at unnecessary risk. Before wastewater is intentionally introduced into the aquifer, the public deserves clear, independent scientific proof that these contaminants will not accumulate or spread through our groundwater. There are safer alternatives that deserve greater investment, including water conservation, local reuse of reclaimed water, and other water supply solutions that don't transfer the risks to another watershed. Please put science first. Remove the Water First North Florida project until independent research demonstrates that our aquifer, springs, and drinking water will be protected. Our water is too important to gamble with. Thank you for your consideration.
