Take Action: Put Science Before Wastewater
The Water First North Florida project would transport millions of gallons of treated wastewater from the Jacksonville area into the Suwannee River Basin to recharge the Floridan Aquifer—the source of drinking water for millions of Floridians and the water that feeds our iconic springs.
Before this project moves forward, we need independent scientific proof that PFAS ("forever chemicals"), pharmaceuticals, and other emerging contaminants will not accumulate in or contaminate our aquifer, springs, rivers, and drinking water. Once these pollutants enter the Floridan Aquifer, there is no practical way to remove them.
Our aquifer is too important to become a wastewater experiment. Protecting clean water also protects our health, our wildlife, and North Florida's outdoor economy.
Tell the St. Johns River Water Management District and JEA to put science first. Ask them to remove the Water First North Florida project from consideration until independent, peer-reviewed research demonstrates it is safe for our aquifer and springs.
Add your voice today—because once our groundwater is contaminated, there is no turning back.
