Tell Kansas Legislators to Protect Our Water from CAFO Waste

CAFOs Harm Our Communities With Their Waste

TAKE ACTION NOW!

Tell Legislators to hold a hearing on House Bill 2693 to regulate the application of CAFO manure and wastewaster to crop lands.

CAFOs (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations) confine large numbers of animals in very small spaces.

Odors, hazardous air pollutants, and water contamination from the billions of gallons of waste generated every year turn rural landscapes into dumping grounds. These factory farms emit massive amounts of greenhouse gases and encourage the rapid spread of pathogens dangerous to humans.

We want the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee to hold a hearing on House Bill 2693, which addresses pollution from concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) that threatens Kansas surface and groundwater. As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to move this bill forward, any way that you can. Large-scale CAFOs generate billions of gallons of waste each year, contributing to water contamination, harmful air emissions, and public health risks for rural communities. These impacts are not caused by traditional Kansas family farms that raise livestock responsibly, but by mega industrial-scale operations that concentrate more waste than land and waterways can safely absorb. HB 2693 offers a targeted, common sense approach to regulating CAFO wastewater and manure application on croplands. A committee hearing will allow legislators, farmers, and affected residents to fully evaluate the need for these protections. I respectfully ask for your help in obtaining a hearing on House Bill 2693. Thank you for your service and consideration.
