Tell your lawmakers: Protect Michigan's Clean Energy Law and UP Residential Ratepayers

The Michigan legislature is trying to muck around with Michigan’s clean energy laws. Michigan families, especially in the UP, are already paying some of the highest electric bills in the Midwest. But instead of helping, three new bills (HB 4007, HB 4283, and SB 727) would make things even worse. These bills give special deals to big corporations and shift the costs onto regular people, all while weakening Michigan’s clean energy progress. The 100% Clean Energy law that we passed in 2023 is working, keeping costs low with solar, wind, and energy efficiency, our cheapest forms of energy. Lawmakers should not be pushing backroom deals that undermine our progress and benefit polluters over communities.

The Senate is considering taking up these bills. We need lower bills, better reliability, and real accountability,  not carveouts for corporations and utilities. We need your voice in telling your Senator to put people first and vote NO on these bills.

I am writing to you today to oppose HB 4007, 4283, and SB 727 These bills would give special breaks to big utilities and corporations, and could end up raising energy costs for people in the U.P. Michigan’s clean energy law is working, and it doesn’t require UMERC to shut down its gas units. The state already has a process in place to review their energy plans. We should let the experts do their job instead of making new exceptions for one company. Please vote no on these bills. Thank you.
