With data center development so shrouded in secrecy, we want to pull back the curtain on where legislators stand on data center legislative solutions. Help us pressure legislators to take a public stand and hear from constituents that we are expecting them to take action on data centers now!

Background:

The urgency to address AI and hyperscale data center development in Michigan increases by the day.

Townships are being overloaded with (understandably!) concerned residents and enormous pressure from big tech to move deeply unpopular and risky data center projects forward.

Our state legislature is in the best position to stand up to big tech and protect our environment and communities from the growing list of risks and harms. There are solutions introduced, the missing ingredient is putting these solutions up for hearings and votes.

With the increasing urgency on AI and hyperscale data centers, I'm joining in Sierra Club's campaign for more transparency on legislator positions on data center policies. We urgently need action to protect communities and ensure that Michiganders are not footing the bill for infrastructure and technology that poses serious risks to our state and economy. As voters we hear a lot of promises or concerns about data centers from legislators, but nothing seems to be moving forward. Getting legislators to publicly commit to supporting legislation helps us understand where lawmakers stand on the issue.
