Tell Senators: Minnesotans want healthy communities, not forever chemicals!

Minnesotans want to live in healthy communities and drink clean water -- but toxic PFAS "forever chemicals" are threatening public health. By banning PFAS use in our everyday products, we can reduce exposure. Call on the Minnesota Senate to keep us safe from forever chemicals!

Clean water and healthy environments are essential rights for all Minnesotans, no matter where we live, what we look like, or how much money we make.

Unfortunately, toxic PFAS "forever chemicals" are a growing threat to communities across Minnesota. PFAS chemicals are in need of immediate policy action due to their wide-spread use, prevalence in breast milk and people’s bodies, and persistence in the environment.

Right now, we have an opportunity to call on the Minnesota Senate to pass the "PFAS Prevention Package" to keep our communities safe. Please join me to urge the Senate to act today.

When it comes to forever chemicals, we need to stop pollution at the source. By banning PFAS use in our everyday products, we can reduce exposure in our homes while also preventing these toxic chemicals from ending up in our soil, air and water.

Research at the CDC links PFAS to a variety of health concerns including decreased fertility, liver damage, and increased risk of asthma.

This legislative session, we are pursuing what we're calling the PFAS Prevention Package. This package of bills requires disclosure of the use of forever chemicals, and prohibits the use of PFAS in:
  • Ski wax
  • Cookware
  • Cosmetics
  • Juvenile products
  • Carpet, furnishings, aftermarket treatments
  • Outdoor wear, uniforms and other textiles
  • Expanding the prohibition in firefighting foams
We are asking the state of Minnesota to heed the call of EPA Administrator Michael Regan when he stated “Every level of government — from local, to state, to Tribal, to federal will need to exercise increased and sustained leadership to truly make progress on PFAS.”

These bills are moving in the Minnesota State House, but so far Republican leadership in the Senate has refused to hear them.

Call on the Minnesota Senate to protect public health and drinking water, and pass the PFAS Prevention Package.

Thank you for your support and advocacy for healthy, equitable communities.

PFAS contamination is a growing concern across Minnesota. Rural, urban, or suburban, PFAS doesn’t care and can be found in soil and water just about anywhere in Minnesota that you look. Known as “forever chemicals” due to their inability to break down, PFAS also persists in the waste stream, contaminating our soil, air, and water. Research at the CDC links PFAS to a variety of health concerns including decreased fertility, liver damage, and increased risk of asthma. PFAS is easy to find, but difficult to clean up. Communities all over Minnesota are being left to deal with the impacts of PFAS pollution. This places a huge burden on taxpayers and local water systems. When it comes to PFAS "forever chemicals", we need to stop pollution at the source. By phasing out PFAS use in our everyday products, we can reduce exposure in our homes while also preventing these toxic chemicals from ending up in our soil, air and water. This legislative session, we are pursuing what we're calling the PFAS Prevention Package. This package of bills includes: Disclosure (HF3075/SF3326) requiring disclosure of how they are using PFAS Prohibiting use of PFAS in: • Ski wax (HF2952/SF3441) • Cookware (HF2907/SF3327) • Cosmetics (HF2906/SF3403) • Juvenile products (HF3571/SF3669) • Carpet, furnishings, aftermarket treatments (HF3180/SF3307) • Outdoor wear, uniforms and other textiles (HF3076/SF3345) • Expanding the prohibition on firefighting foams (HF3686) You have an opportunity this year to make a real difference in protecting Minnesotans. These bills have been moving in the House, but we need the Senate to take action as well. Please support full consideration of the bills in the PFAS Prevention Package – this is something that will help all parts of Minnesota and protect taxpayers from a problem that will only get worse if we don’t take action now. Thank you.
