Minnesota communities love the outdoors, and care about protecting clean water and habitat. But the increasing use of Off Highway Vehicles (OHV) poses some risks to our wetlands, streams, and wildlife. With millions of public dollars recently appropriated for trail creation and expansion, we urgently need measures to protect sensitive habitats and natural areas on state lands.
That’s why Sierra Club supports common sense legislation to sustainably manage motorized recreation on Minnesota public lands. We are working to ensure that our public lands are protected and ensure a balanced approach to future development of OHV trails on public land.
Right now, there is good language included in the House Environment Omnibus Bill limiting OHV access in state forests to only designated and posted trails. Legislators need to hear from you -- their constituents -- to get this language passed into law.
