Governor Walz: Protect the BWCA

Tell Governor Walz to Take the First Step & Cancel Twin Metals' Lease

Trump and his allies in Congress have stripped federal protections from the Boundary Waters – making state-level action critical. Right now, there are proposals for toxic copper-sulfide mines in the BWCA watershed. However, these mines cannot move forward without state permits.

Governor Walz and the Department of Natural Resources should take the first step towards stopping them. The DNR has both the legal authority and fiduciary duty to cancel one of Twin Metals' state mineral leases. Canceling this lease would not put an end to the Twin Metals project, but it would be a crucial first step. This action would be the precedent that could lead to the State canceling all of Twin Metals' State leases in the coming years.

Minnesota voters of all political stripes overwhelmingly back natural resource protection. We need our leaders to hear our voices loud and clear. We value water over profits. Tell Governor Walz to protect his legacy, to stand up to Trump and direct the DNR to cancel this lease.

Thank you for your service and dedication to Minnesota. I’m asking you to act to protect your legacy and the Boundary Waters. Minnesota voters of all political stripes overwhelmingly back natural resource protection. Please stand up to Trump’s federal overreach by directing the DNR to cancel one of Twin Metals’ state mineral leases, which they have the legal authority and fiduciary duty to do. Thank you for protecting our water and this national treasure in our care.
