Most students in the U.S. are either learning very little about climate change at school. Worse, about a half of students are not taught the truth about human causes of climate change, in part because of the impact of climate deniers on our public discourse. Considering climate change is the largest challenge facing our kids and future generations, lack of accurate instruction about why it’s happening -- much less an exploration of solutions -- is a big problem.
Fortunately, a new set of K-12 science standards--the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)--include solid climate change education. But fossil fuel interests and climate denying politicians have been fighting against adoption of the standards in state after state in order to keep kids in the dark about climate change.
Governors have the power to sway decisions on education policy. Given the stakes for our kids with climate change, and their right to be taught the truth, governors need to take a stand for climate science education. Please sign the petition to tell governors to support Next Generation Science Standards and climate change education for all!
