Tell Congress: Put the interests of people and the environment at the forefront of NAFTA negotiations!

Trump administration officials are now meeting behind closed doors with representatives from Canada and Mexico to renegotiate NAFTA. Such secrecy is what produced NAFTA in the first place, leaving us with two decades of offshored jobs, low wages, polluted air and water, and increased climate change. Leaving people out of the process once again is a recipe for expanding NAFTA's threats to our communities.

Since 1994, NAFTA has empowered corporate polluters to challenge environmental protections, boosted destructive mining in Mexico, and contributed to the rise of Canada's toxic tar sands industry. It's hard to imagine a worse deal for the environment but, with Donald Trump's corporate trade advisors weighing in on negotiations, we could see a NAFTA 2.0 that brings more oil and gas pipelines, more fracking, and more climate pollution.

Congress will need to approve any revised deal and must weigh in now to ensure the public isn't kept in the dark during negotiations.

Tell your members of Congress: No more back-door trade deals. Demand an open and transparent process that gives people a chance to weigh in on NAFTA.
