Rocky Mountain Power has a solution to pollution: pee on it

Coal plants create tons of air pollution every year, contributing to asthma, heart disease, and premature death. While power plant retirement is the most effective option to protect public health, the least your utility can do is install modern pollution controls on the plant.

But, Rocky Mountain Power wants to take a new, experimental approach. They want to pour urea, the chemical found in urine, on the coal before they burn it. They claim this bizarre, untested approach will somehow reduce air pollution, but have provided no proof.

In fact, an independent chemical engineer found that the urea treatment is likely to actually increase emissions including NOx and CO, SO2, particulate matter, lead, and greenhouse gases like CO2 and N2O. [1]

It's time for Rocky Mountain Power to get serious about cleaning up the pollution from their dangerous, expensive coal plants. Tell Utah Governor Gary Herbert not to approve this dangerous experiment.
