Historic fuel economy standards set by the Obama administration are under attack. After being finalized just earlier this year, the Trump administration has reopened these standards to put corporate interests ahead of the health of people and our climate.

This is a blatant attempt to rig the system for Big Oil and automakers at the expense of American families. Nothing has changed that warrants a complete do over of this process.

It’s up to you to speak out and make it clear that the American people want cars running more efficiently to lessen pollution and save money.

I oppose any wasteful effort to scale back the Obama administration’s fuel economy standards. Finalized by the EPA just earlier this year, the facts remain the same: these fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas standards will save American families $1.7 trillion at the pump and reduce carbon emissions by 6 billion metric tons over the lifetimes of the vehicles sold in model years 2012-2025. Cars and trucks sold today prove these standards are working and achievable. Automakers are meeting the standards faster and more affordably than anticipated, and consumers are reaping the benefits. Reopening review of these standards is wasting taxpayer dollars for a redundant process that is only in corporate interest to roll back vehicle emission safeguards. The EPA must fulfill its duty to keep these standards in place so American families can breathe clean air, live in a safe climate, and save money.
