It’s time to blow the whistle on Sec. Zinke by demanding that the OIG investigate his misconduct

After just one year in office, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke has racked up a truly astonishing list of misdeeds.

He’s infamous for his scheme to sell our public lands to oil and gas companies -- but he’s also been caught using wildfire preparedness funds to fund a private helicopter ride, awarding a $300 million contract to a two-person company in his hometown, and much, much more.

Zinke acts like he works for the oil and gas lobby, but he actually works for us -- he’s responsible for protecting our shared cultural and natural resources. And after a year on the job, he’s due for his performance review.

If Trump won’t keep Zinke in line, it’s time to report him to the Office of the Inspector General (or OIG) -- an independent group devoted to rooting out “waste, fraud, and mismanagement” in Zinke’s department.

Members of the public are encouraged to contact the OIG to report wrongdoing at DOI. Send a message urging the Inspector General to investigate Secretary Zinke’s mismanagement of our lands and cultural resources.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke is responsible for protecting our natural resources and cultural heritage. For the past year, we’ve watched him abandon that duty as he caters to his friends in the oil, gas, and mining industries. Under Sec. Zinke, oil companies can lease public land for as little as $10 an acre, while American families are getting charged seven times that amount just to visit a national park -- a fee increase of more than 200%. He’s also forged ahead with an illegal campaign to shrink our national monuments, despite millions of public comments urging him to keep these lands protected. Meanwhile, Sec. Zinke has wasted taxpayer money on lavish personal travel around the country -- from helicopter tours to flights on private jets. He’s awarded lucrative business contracts to his personal friends and failed to disclose his own investment in a firearms company that has benefitted from his decisions as Interior Secretary. The Office of the Inspector General exists to investigate fraud, waste and mismanagement -- and Interior Secretary Zinke is clearly (and repeatedly) guilty of all three. I urge you to investigate Zinke and hold him accountable for his failure to protect our lands and resources.
