Washington has the chance to make history in the fight against climate change by passing Ballot Initiative 1631 this November. Over 370,000 Washingtonians and a broad coalition of businesses, Tribes, unions, and environmentalists are supporting the initiative, pushing us closer to Washington's 100 percent clean energy future. But Kimberly Harris, CEO of Puget Sound Energy (PSE), our state's largest utility, has not yet shown support.
Washington State can’t cut climate pollution without transitioning its electricity grid away from dirty fossil fuels to 100 percent clean energy. But PSE still gets nearly 60 percent of its electricity from fossil fuels. By endorsing I-1631, PSE would be signaling that it wants to be on the right side of our transition to a cleaner future.
We need CEO Kimberly Harris to stand with its customers – not the oil industry giants like BP, Shell and Chevron that are already pouring money into the state to defeat I-1631.
