Across the nation, people are showing that switching our cities and towns to 100% clean and renewable energy will create jobs, boost local economies, and improve the health of our communities—especially for our kids. Due to our changing climate, asthma rates have risen 15% in the last decade, and this is just one example of the negative health effects of our changing climate and the use of fossil fuels. But we know that switching to clean energy can have a positive impact on health. Research from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative [https://www.rggi.org] estimates that if cities around the world switched to renewable energy, premature deaths from cardiovascular and respiratory problems would go down on every continent and we’d save an estimated 150 million lives. Here in the U.S., nearly 100 communities have already adopted ambitious 100% clean, renewable energy goals for their communities. Six cities in the U.S.--Georgetown, TX, Aspen, CO, Burlington, VT, Greensburg, KS, Rock port, MO, and Kodiak Island, AK--have already hit their targets. Poll after poll shows that a majority of Americans support renewable energy, and it’s time for more local leaders and cities to step up to the plate. I’m ready for cleaner air, cheaper energy, and 100% clean, renewable energy for all! Will you lead our community to 100% clean energy?
