Thank Mayor Hagerty for supporting Evanston's commitment to 100% clean, renewable energy for all!

On Monday, December 10, the Evanston City Council unanimously approved the city’s new Climate Action and Resilience Plan [1], which includes a commitment to achieve 100% clean, renewable electricity supply community-wide by 2030, along with other bold goals to act on climate change.

This historic commitment means that Evanston is the first municipality in Illinois, and the 102nd city nationwide [2], to establish a goal of transitioning to 100% clean and renewable electricity for all. The plan calls for carbon neutrality by 2050, zero waste by 2050, and 100% renewable electricity by 2030, among other steps to combat climate change. The plan was developed by a 17-member working group appointed by Mayor Stephen Hagerty. The plan identifies critical actions that Evanston must take to help avoid cataclysmic effects of climate change, as well as key strategies to ensure that Evanston is prepared to deal with those climate hazards.

Evanston is blazing a trail in the Prairie State by being the first city in Illinois to commit to powering itself entirely with clean energy. A transition to 100% renewable electricity by 2030 means cleaner air, energy bill savings, local solar development and job creation, and a healthier community for all Evanstonians. As a Mayor For 100% Clean Energy [3], Mayor Hagerty’s leadership in prioritizing and developing Evanston’s Climate Action and Resilience Plan has helped ensure that Evanston will pursue a better energy system for everyone, and we thank him and city council members for passing this ambitious plan.

Let Mayor Hagerty know you’re proud of Evanston’s leadership and their support of a just and equitable transition to 100% clean, renewable energy for all! Say thanks now!

Evanston is committed to 100% clean energy!
