On Tuesday, December 18, the DC Council voted unanimously to approve the "Clean Energy DC Omnibus Act of 2018," a bold climate bill that includes a commitment to achieve 100% renewable electricity supply across the District by 2032.
After years of working with a diverse coalition of over 100 community groups and DC legislators, we're excited that the District is leading the country with ambitious, attainable climate action -- especially in the absence of federal leadership.
The legislation establishes a goal to use 100% clean, renewable electricity across the District, meaning all municipal operations, residences, and businesses within DC will be powered entirely by renewable sources - including the White House!
Additionally, the bill has strong provisions for maximizing energy efficiency and low-income energy programs, and encourages the transportation sector to transition away from fossil fuels and toward renewable electric power.
Say thanks to the DC Council now for passing this historic legislation and showing their support for a community-wide goal of 100% clean energy for all!
