Act to Stop Sediment Pollution of Virginia's Waters

Rivers are running red with sediment pollution from failed erosion control devices and careless construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP).

Constructing the MVP has polluted our streams with sediment, killing fish and aquatic life. Act now and demand a stop to construction of the pipeline and the destruction it's caused.

Last month, the Virginia Attorney General sued the MVP for over 300 erosion control violations. It’s time for Attorney General Herring to do even more.

Since last Spring, volunteers have spent hundreds of hours observing construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP). They have seen hundreds of violations of erosion and sediment control regulations during the construction. These numerous erosion control violations resulted in severe damage to streams and rivers from sediment contamination. In addition, your own office filed a lawsuit against the Mountain Valley Pipeline for over 300 violations of erosion control regulations in December. The lawsuit remains in the courts while erosion control violations continue. The Water Control Board voted to re-consider the Section 401 permit in December. Damage continues to be done! Our streams and rivers in Southwest Virginia are running red with mud, killing fish and aquatic wildlife. You must issue a Stop Work Order to protect further damage to our waters. There is no safe, environmentally responsible way to build this pipeline and construction should not be allowed to continue until all permits are in place and legal challenges resolved. Until the Department of Environmental Quality and pipeline builders can assure us that the waters of the Commonwealth will be protected, contamination of our streams and rivers should not continue.
