The Endangered Species Act is our nation's most effective law for protecting threatened wildlife. But the Trump administration decimated rules implementing this vital legislation, rolling back critical protections for habitat and species alike.
And it's having real consequences: after the Trump administration delisted the gray wolf, states aggressively went after these majestic creatures. Idaho passed a law allowing the killing of 90% of the state's wolves. Montana is in the midst of passing a series of bills targeting wolves, bears, and other wildlife. Almost 30% of Yellowstone's entire wolf population has already been killed after wolves wandered outside Park boundaries and their protected area.
And though a federal judge has reinstated protections for most wolves, the Northern Rocky Mountain population was not included in that ruling -- continuing to leave wolves in these states open to extreme and heartbreaking hunting practices.
