Tell President Biden: No more fossil fuel subsidies, no new gas!

I am deeply concerned about the federal government’s lack of action on climate change. Although the Biden administration has promised to stop subsidizing fossil fuels, the USDA Rural Utility Service is threatening to break that promise by reviewing new fossil fuel projects. Right now, the RUS is considering giving Dairyland Power Cooperative a loan to build the Nemadji Trail Energy Center, a large new gas plant in Superior, Wisconsin, which would pollute our home with greenhouse gases for the next thirty years. I am calling on the federal government to follow through on its promise by ensuring that the RUS does not approve this loan. This summer, we’ve experienced wildfires, poor air quality, extreme drought and heat right in our backyards. Climate scientists have issued a dire warning that we cannot continue to build new fossil fuel infrastructure and also avoid the worsening effects of the climate crisis. You have the opportunity and responsibility to deny this loan.
