We're joining our partners in the Outdoors Alliance for Kids to call on Congress to help get more kids and families outdoors.
We are in the midst of a mental health crisis among youth. Nature provides clear physical and mental health benefits, but right now, Black and brown kids are three times less likely to live in neighborhoods with nearby nature access than their white neighbors. We need Congress to act to help close the “nature gap” by advancing outdoor equity legislation and investing $225 million to address historic inequities in nature access.
Supporting programs like the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership program, Every Kid Outdoors, and the Civilian Climate Corps would ensure that young people can establish direct connections to nature close to home, visit national parks for free, and find meaningful family sustaining jobs protecting our parks and public lands and ensuring greater access to nature for all.
Ask your representative to cosponsor these bills:
- Outdoors for All Act (H.R.5413 / S.2887)
- Transit to Trails Act (H.R. 2924 / S.1461)
AND to support critical funding for these programs:
- Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program at $130 million
- Every Kid Outdoors at $25 million
- Civilian Climate Corps at $69 million
Doing so will help ensure all communities have access to nature on a thriving planet. Sign your name now, and for added impact, include a personal message to your representative!
