President Biden: Protect Our Climate

We all want clean air and water, good jobs for our families, and a future where our communities thrive for generations to come. President Biden has made historic progress on transitioning us to a clean energy economy, but much more must be done. While heat waves, floods and fires worsen year by year, fossil fuel CEOs continue to rake in record profits. And despite the Biden administration’s commitment to climate leadership, the United States remains the world’s biggest producer of oil and gas.

We can build a better future together, but we don't have a moment to lose. President Biden has the opportunity to put the full might of the federal government to work to fight the climate crisis, create good jobs, and safeguard our health from air and water pollution. He needs to hear from us!

Dear President Biden, You must do everything in your power to protect our shared home from the worst effects of climate change, create a more just economy with good union jobs, and safeguard our families and environment from air and water pollution. We don't have a moment to lose. Please take immediate action to: - End fossil fuels: To fix a problem, first we need to stop making it worse. I urge you to ban all new fossil fuel extraction and leasing on public lands and waters, stop approving permits for new fossil fuel infrastructure projects such as fracked gas pipelines, oil pipelines and gas export facilities, and set strong carbon and methane pollution standards for new and existing fossil fuel power plants. - Transition to a clean energy economy. The technological solutions required to fight climate change are ready now. I urge you to advocate for things like public transit and clean vehicles, electrifying our homes and businesses, building out renewable energy, and promoting climate-friendly agriculture, forests, and waterways. I also urge you to continue supporting the equitable and swift implementation of the game changing the Inflation Reduction Act, so money is distributed and the benefits are felt by everyday people -- not corporations and the wealthy few. - Put justice and people first: The way we do this transition matters a whole lot. We can build a new economy while addressing long-standing racial injustice and wealth inequality, and creating family-sustaining jobs. I urge you to honor your commitment that 40 percent of federal investments flow to communities that have been overburdened by pollution. Thank you for all that you’ve done so far to tackle climate change and invest in a clean energy economy. Keep the momentum going. We cannot afford to wait.
