Support Offshore Wind, Defeat Dark Money

A Sierra magazine investigation revealed how a network of climate-science deniers, fossil fuel corporations, and political lobbyists connected to oil and gas think tanks are working to undermine the transition to clean energy. However, renewable energy projects have added tens of billions of dollars to the economy, created new jobs, and helped offset the retirement of dirty energy plants with cheaper, cleaner energy.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has the chance to approve more offshore wind projects, create good jobs, and fight climate change. Dark money lobbyists are pulling out all the stops to block clean energy, so we need to fight back and defend offshore wind.

Dear President Biden and BOEM Director Klein, We applaud the Biden Administration’s efforts to build 30 Gigawatts of offshore wind by 2030. Not only will responsibly-sited and equitably developed offshore wind energy help fight climate change, but it allows us to build a new industry supporting cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable communities. As we retire older, high-polluting energy plants, offshore wind energy will play a crucial role in replacing the energy production. Many of the benefits include: - Positive economic impacts, with wind turbine technicians being the fastest growing job in the U.S. - Support for local communities who are disproportionately affected by the health impacts of fossil fuel pollution - Reduced emissions and a move towards the goals of the Paris agreement Wind energy is popular with nearly 60% of Americans wanting to expand offshore wind energy in the U.S. Offshore wind energy must be developed rapidly, equitably, and responsibly. We have the solutions to fight climate change and power our country with clean energy – offshore wind energy plays a central role in this effort, and we thank you for your leadership on this front.
