While we have seen huge advances in renewable energy technology like solar and wind (and big wins from the Sierra Club on shutting down coal plants!), large industrial production has lagged far behind in going green. Crucial building materials like steel are still produced predominantly using coal power and contribute about 9% of total human-made carbon dioxide emissions globally.
In addition to the negative climate impacts, these outdated, inefficient manufacturing plants expose communities and workers to toxic pollution and other health risks. Making the pivot to clean manufacturing means we no longer have to choose between building a strong economy, creating good-paying jobs, and clean air and water.
Sierra Club's new Industrial Transformation campaign is bringing communities together to make clean manufacturing a reality -- sign up and we will keep you in the loop about all kinds of creative opportunities to take action!
