Dear President Biden, You have called climate change a "clear and present danger" to our nation and taken bold actions to invest in a clean, renewable energy future. This includes passing the largest-ever investment in clean energy through the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act. These steps are essential in protecting people and the planet. To prevent climate change's worst effects, we must also stop the expansion of dirty fossil fuels. Unfortunately, the United States is falling behind in shutting down dirty and dangerous pipelines. Allowing the continued operation and expansion of pipelines like Line 5, Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP), Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), and others jeopardize our climate, Tribal treaty rights, irreplaceable watersheds, and the health of nearby communities. Please commit to prioritizing our communities and livable future ahead of fossil fuel profits by shutting down existing oil pipelines and stopping the buildout of new oil and gas pipelines. Right now, you can take actions to protect our climate and communities by revoking the Presidential permit for Line 5, directing the Army Corps to choose No Action Alternative 2 in their agency review of DAPL, and ensure FERC considers climate and environmental justice when permitting fracked gas pipelines and gas export terminals. We need you to act swiftly to protect our climate and our communities. Thank you.
