Urge the Biden Administration to deny pending LNG permits!

We have one last chance to demand that President Biden's Department of Energy (DOE) stop the massive LNG buildout harming the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, Texas, and beyond, putting our future at risk.

Six proposed LNG terminals or expansion projects are already approved by another federal regulator and are now seeking a license from the DOE to export fracked gas to other countries in Asia and Europe.

Approving more fracked gas LNG export licenses, or leaving the decision to the incoming Trump Administration, means sacrificing more Gulf lives and the destruction of local economies, often in predominantly Black and Brown communities. It means higher domestic energy prices across the country, and it means more devastating destruction from climate change.

Already, clean energy like solar and wind is more affordable than fossil fuels. Economists and climate scientists agree that the world does not need more gas. DOE Secretary Granholm has all the information and analysis she needs to determine that more LNG exports are not in the public's interest.

Dear Secretary Granholm, Thank you for pausing the review of the all pending applications to export LNG to non-FTA countries. It is important for the current and future DOE staff to be working with the most up-to-date data and analysis. I call on you to boldly act to prove what we have known all along – that more LNG exports are decidedly NOT in the public interest. Deny the six pending FERC-authorized LNG export license applications now, before Trump takes office. LNG exports result in higher domestic energy prices and have decimated local economies in places like Cameron, Louisiana and Freeport, Texas. Thanks to modeling done using EPA tools, we know that the existing LNG terminals result in 60 premature deaths every year and nearly $1 billion in health costs. If all the planned export terminals and expansions are built, those numbers increase to 149 premature deaths and $2.33 billion in health costs – every year! The greenhouse gas emissions from these additional LNG terminals are contrary to the Biden Administration’s own climate goals, and will certainly lock the world into the burden of significant climate change – no matter whose emissions budget they count against. You have the opportunity to do what needs to be done in these final days of the Administration. You can be a champion for justice by denying applications for CP2 LNG, Commonwealth LNG, Lake Charles LNG, Magnolia LNG, Port Arthur LNG, and the Saguaro Energía LNG . Or you can do nothing, leaving the people in the Gulf to suffer from even more environmental injustice. You would be putting corporate profits over the lives and wellbeing of Gulf communities – trading their lives and our climate for corporate profits. I want your legacy to be one of action and common-sense bravery, that you took the needed steps to protect our families and future.
