Grizzly Protections Upheld! Send a Thank You Note

Great news! The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has decided to keep grizzly bears in the Northern Rockies protected under the Endangered Species Act.

Grizzly bears are an essential part of the American West, a wildlife icon that has been integral to our country for centuries. They embody true wilderness. State and federal agencies must commit to continue protecting this keystone species and work for a lasting, durable recovery of the species.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is currently revising to how grizzly bears are managed, which includes changing the protected population boundary and editing regulations that prohibit killing and harming bears. Send in a comment and share your thoughts!

Thank you for rejecting attempts to delist grizzly bears and recognizing the need to ensure long-term grizzly bear recovery in the lower 48 states. After two centuries of decline due to persecution and habitat loss, grizzly bears are just now beginning to rebound in the United States. The decision to deny the state petitions will keep safeguards in place until grizzly bears are fully recovered, and states have adequate regulations in place to ensure grizzly bears will thrive for future generations with a durable recovery. However, we are very concerned about some of the proposed changes allowing lethal removal of grizzly bears via the 4(d) rule. It is important to make sure that he new rule does not hinder continued grizzly bear recovery in the Northern Rockies.
