National parks, national monuments, and other public lands and waters are some of our country’s most popular areas for exploring nature while conserving landscapes, clean water, and wildlife for the future. They are part of what makes this country great, but the Trump Administration, some members of Congress, and certain state leaders want to give away these cherished places to billionaire corporate polluters to increase drilling, mining, and other development - while blocking access to the general public.

Legislation has advanced or been introduced in Congress to sell off and privatize public lands, to eliminate national monuments and other conservation areas, and to dismantle key laws that have protected our public lands for decades. And President Trump has personally directed a massive effort to strip protections of public lands and waters to enable extractive industrial development.

It’s more important than ever to demand that your members of Congress do all they can to defend the national monuments and other public lands and waters we all love. Send your message today!

PROMPTS:

  • Do you live near any public lands, or are there particular public lands in your district / state that are worth mentioning?
  • Do you have a favorite national park, national monument, national forest, or other area of public land?

TALKING POINTS:

  • Stripping public land protections to enable extractive industrial development will ultimately result in the public losing access to some of our country’s great mountains, valleys, deserts, rivers, lakes, and forests.
  • More drilling, mining, and logging on public lands will have the same impact on public access as full privatization - “no trespassing” signs, locked gates, and development of natural areas.
  • These actions may negatively impact communities who depend on public lands and waters for their local economies, drinking water, cultural values, and quality of life.
  • Vote NO on any bills that threaten national monuments and the Antiquities Act, encourage widespread sale or privatization of public lands, or eliminate protections for public lands and waters.
