Every three years, methane gas distribution companies in New York are required to submit a long-term plan to the Public Service Commission, the State's utility regulator. These plans are supposed to show how the company will be making their business operations more climate friendly, but they've been falling short.
National Grid's long-term plan tries to justify the construction of a new fracked gas pipeline, the Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) Project, despite the fact that National Grid's own projections show demand will be met with existing sources well into the 2040's.
National Grid's plan would force us to continue down the same old path of cowing to fossil fuel expansion at a time when New York needs to be moving in the opposite direction. Methane gas is a climate super-pollutant that needs to be addressed with the severity and urgency the climate crisis deserves.
National Grid's plan should be rejected by the PSC. Sign onto our comment below, and add your own input to make it personal.
