It's Time for Jacksonville to Put People Over Pollution!

Did you know JEA's aging power plants are driving up electric bills while polluting our air and water? Families across Jacksonville are paying the price -- with higher monthly bills, increased health risks like asthma and respiratory illness, and toxic pollution that threatens our St. Johns River.

For decades, the city-owned utility has been one of the biggest polluters in Duval County. Instead of locking us into more dirty and expensive fossil fuels, JEA should be investing in affordable, clean energy solutions that lower costs and protect public health.

Mayor Donna Deegan has said she recognizes the need to address pollution and protect our future. Yet, too many City Council members continue to ignore the burden that high bills, poor health, and pollution place on our community.

Take action today: Urge the City of Jacksonville and JEA Board members to hold JEA accountable and transition to clean, renewable energy that lowers bills, safeguards our health, and keeps our rivers clean.

Dear City of Jacksonville leaders and JEA Board Members, We expect JEA to follow through with your commitment to double solar. While other utilities are lowering costs and cleaning up their energy, Jacksonville families are stuck paying higher bills for dirty, outdated coal and gas. Every month, ratepayers feel the impact of JEA's bad decisions in the form of rising bills. Families in our community cannot afford endless rate hikes just to keep old polluting plants running. JEA's failure to invest in affordable solar and clean energy is costing us now and will cost us even more in the future. And it's not just about money. Keeping Northside Generating Station open threatens the St. Johns River with toxic coal ash that could poison our water, our fish, and our health. A coal ash spill would be catastrophic for Jacksonville, yet JEA still refuses to move away from this dangerous fuel. We need JEA to take meaningful action: 1) Set a deadline to retire coal and gas plants, starting with Northside. 2) Stop raising our bills to prop up dirty energy. 3) Invest in clean local solar and storage that lowers costs, creates jobs, and protects our community. 4) Protect the St. Johns River from coal ash pollution once and for all. Jacksonville deserves a utility that puts people first, not fossil fuel profits. The community is watching, and we will not sit by while JEA continues to poison our future and drive up our bills.
