Trump Is Selling Our Oceans to Corporate Polluters

Donald Trump and Doug Burgum want to sell America's precious coastal waters to the highest bidder. They just announced a draft 5-year offshore drilling plan that opens up coastal waters that haven't been available for leasing for decades. Waters off the coast of California, Alaska, Florida, and in the Gulf of Mexico are now being presented on a silver platter for Trump and Burgum's buddies in the oil and gas industry.

The Trump administration seems to think that they can sell our public resources at bargain prices. Help sink this plan by submitting a comment before the January 23 deadline!

The recently announced draft 11th National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program is irresponsible, unnecessary, and a threat to communities. This plan should be significantly revised. The plan includes opening up California waters that have not seen oil and gas interest or development in 4 decades. The intention to open up much of Alaska’s offshore waters is an unwanted intrusion on a vast and precious ecological resource that threatens a robust tourism and fishing industry in favor of a risky, expensive, and dangerous plan. Finally, the plans to sell off and drill the Gulf of America (Mexico) are a massive threat to the tourism industry in the gulf and the one of a kind habitat that is the home of so many species of wildlife. The Gulf needs better enforcement of oil and gas drilling regulations, not more drill rigs. These plans should be scaled back dramatically so that communities can stay healthy, ecosystems can function, and sustainable industries can continue to thrive.
