America 250: Celebrate America’s Natural Legacy by Defending Our Public Lands

Public lands are part of our natural legacy.

As we look back at 250 years of the United States the presence of millions of acres of public lands is singularly unifying. They bring together all Americans – Democrats, Republicans, Independents.

These are the mountains, forests, deserts, rivers and streams, prairies, coastlines and other environments where we go to hike and watch wildlife. Most of all, we go to public lands to relax, and get a break.

Public lands also supply tens of millions of Americans with clean water, keep air clean, safeguard history and culture, and store millions of tons of carbon as we work to combat climate change. In short, they're essential to American life.

But they're also under threat. The Trump administration has launched an all out assault on public lands by slashing protections and ramming through industrial level mining, logging, grazing, oil and gas drilling and other polluting activities. And they've supported the outright sale of millions of acres, and tried to eliminate conservation, wildlife, and other environmental protection from land use and planning.

We need to remind our elected officials that our public lands are an important part of our natural legacy. They must do everything they can to keep these lands public, protected, and accessible to all for the next 250 years. Will you send a letter now?
