The Trump administration is advancing plans to build a massive arch between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery, the final resting place for active-duty service members, veterans and their families. This is one of several costly changes to the National Mall. These projects would consume taxpayer dollars, threaten cherished public spaces, and move forward despite laws requiring Congressional oversight and public review.
At the same time, the Trump administration has redirected millions of dollars collected through National Park entrance fees to help pay for these so-called beautification projects in Washington instead of using those funds to maintain and improve the parks where they were collected.
Our national parks are struggling. The National Park Service has had their staff cut, maintenance needs continue to grow, and visitors are already feeling the impacts through deteriorating trails, reduced educational programs, and fewer park rangers.
Congress has both the authority and the responsibility to stop this wasteful spending and ensure our public lands are protected.
Tell your members of Congress to reject funding for Trump’s vanity projects and instead invest in the parks, public lands, and veterans who deserve real support.
