Trump has once again disregarded the will of the American people by attempting to slash nearly three million acres of protections and virtually eliminate Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments in southern Utah. His actions also defy Intertribal collaborative management and shared stewardship of these landscapes.
Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante are irreplaceable. They protect sacred Tribal cultural landscapes, incredible wildlife habitat, world-renowned recreation, clean water, and some of the most spectacular wildlands on Earth. These places are part of America’s natural legacy—not bargaining chips for political agendas or extractive industries.
Trump's actions disregard years of Indigenous and other local advocacy to protect these landscapes, and will hurt communities who depend on public lands and waters for their local economies, clean drinking water, culture, history, and quality of life. Allowing new drilling, mining, and other industrial development in these treasured places will also block access to public lands for local residents and visitors alike.
These attacks on our national monuments are the latest in a long line of Trump Administration attempts to industrialize and privatize the public lands we love. Join us in standing alongside Tribal Nations, local communities, and people across the country to defend Bears Ears, Grand Staircase-Escalante, and all of America's national monuments.
