Dear Administrator Zeldin, I oppose EPA’s proposal to weaken the heavy-duty truck pollution standards. Shortening the required emission-related warranty coverage, delaying implementation of the required useful-life requirements, and revising compliance provisions is unacceptable. The heavy-duty vehicle common-sense standards were developed through a consultative process and grounded in science and data. In 2023, EPA finalized a rule that was feasible for truck makers and ensured that, over time, residents across the country, especially those burdened by freight pollution, would breathe cleaner air. EPA should maintain the current standards. Instead, the EPA proposed weakening the standards after the American Trucking Associations claimed the standards would impose burdens on the industry. The trade-offs ATA requested do not justify increased truck pollution in our communities. Manufacturers already have the technology to meet these standards. Cummins and Daimler are marketing engines that comply with current standards and are built on long-established emissions-reduction technologies. Back in 2025, PACCAR informed its investors that its trucks met the standards. EPA should keep the stronger warranty and useful-life protections on schedule. The EPA’s mission is to protect public health and the environment. Truck drivers and community members alike are counting on these standards to improve air quality and prevent devastating health impacts. At a time when U.S. truck drivers are paying for shockingly expensive diesel fuel, we need manufacturers to produce the most fuel-efficient, cleanest trucks. We urge the Trump administration to stop catering to the truck industry and instead uphold EPA's own mission.
