Tell Congress to Protect the Endangered Species Act!

The Trump Administration is attempting to dismantle the Endangered Species Act (ESA) with unprecedented attacks on the law. Legislation was just introduced in Congress that would undo the Trump Administration's latest attack on the ESA.

Since being signed into law by President Nixon in the 1970s, the Endangered Species Act has been a tremendous success, restoring the populations of wildlife on the brink of extinction and providing a model to restore biodiversity across the globe. If the proposals from the Trump Administration are implemented, it would send our nation’s most imperiled wildlife toward extinction.

The Endangered Species Act is the last line of defense for species facing extinction like the gray wolf, grizzly bear, salmon, and orca. Send a message to Congress telling them that now is the time to stand up for the ESA and its importance to our country!

I am writing today to ask you to support Senator Schiff and Whitehouse’s resolution, S.J. Res 204 that would reject the administration’s latest unprecedented attempt to circumvent congressional intent and stop the reversal of a decades-old provision meant to protect our wildlife. This legislation would overturn a recently finalized rule that changes the definition of harm under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). If implemented, this rule would allow the destruction of habitat even when it kills or injures endangered wildlife. Further, the Trump Administration is proposing under this new rule that the killing of an endangered species is only illegal if there is intent to kill the species. This interpretation would completely gut the ESA and send our nation’s wildlife on the path to extinction. The Endangered Species Act serves as our last line of defense in preventing extinction and restoring species to viable and sustainable populations. I urge you to strongly oppose any attempts to weaken the Endangered Species Act to publicly support this effort to overturn the updated rule.
