Trade Deals and Tariffs Should Protect People and Planet

For too long, U.S. trade policy has prioritized corporate profits while workers, communities, and our climate bear the consequences. Trade agreements are more than just the tariffs you see in the news; they affect our jobs, wages, food, public health, energy options, and environment.

Your elected officials must represent your interests by demanding a better approach to trade: one that puts people ahead of corporate profits.

Tell Congress to stand up to President Trump and his polluting benefactors by demanding strong environmental protections in trade agreements with Canada, Mexico, and other countries by supporting the Fair Trade for Working Families resolution.

I am writing to urge you to support Fair Trade for Working Families (H.Res. 1286) and to demand that the Trump administration put working families, consumers, communities, and the environment ahead of corporate interests in ongoing trade negotiations. Trade agreements can affect our jobs, wages, food, public health, and environment, and as such they should not give corporations greater power to undermine protections that communities depend on. The Fair Trade for Working Families plan offers a better vision for U.S. trade policy. It would promote fair wages, protect workers and consumers, strengthen family farms, address corporate abuses, and advance a healthy environment. As the Trump administration negotiates and renegotiates major trade agreements, including the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), Congress should demand that these negotiations serve the public interest. Please: - Cosponsor H.Res. 1286, the Fair Trade for Working Families resolution. - Urge the Trump administration to incorporate the Fair Trade for Working Families principles into ongoing trade negotiations. - Demand strong, enforceable environmental protections in U.S. trade agreements. - Reject trade provisions that give corporations greater power to challenge or undermine environmental, health, and consumer protections.
