On Tuesday this week, Enbridge’s aging Line 5 pipeline ruptured and remains shut down after an unoccupied semi-truck rolled into an exposed section of the pipeline in northern Wisconsin, releasing natural gas liquids into the environment. Thankfully, no injuries were reported but nearby homes and families were evacuated and the impacts to the area are still unclear.
In response, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has called for a halt to the reroute section of construction on the pipeline where the incident occurred.
Enbridge has a history of a lack of transparency and drilling failures regarding their pipeline operations and the Department of Natural Resources has raised their concerns in a long list of questions sent to Enbridge demanding answers for this incident and prior noncompliance.
We must hold Enbridge accountable for their actions and ensure our families and communities stay safe from any future construction incidents.
Tell Governor Evers and the Department of Natural Resources to revoke Enbridge’s permits and halt all construction on Line 5 until there are protections in place to safeguard our lands and waters.
