For more than 130 years, Yosemite National Park has been a symbol of Sierra Club's work, beginning with the fight that helped inspire our organization's founding in 1892. No national park is more closely connected to Sierra Club's history and identity.
Now, Department of the Interior Secretary Doug Burgum is trying to carve up Yosemite to make a private real-estate development more profitable. We're even learning that his administration is planning to use public funds to help cover the costs of the exchange, turning money meant to protect public lands into a tool for selling them out. This is a continuation of this administration's ruthless attempts to dismantle irreplaceable parks and other public lands and waterways for mining, logging, and fossil fuel development.
Yosemite is not this administration's to give away!
This is one in a long list of forests, monuments, waterways, and other public lands that the administration wants to become playgrounds for billionaires and corporate polluters. We know you will help us use every tool at our disposal to protect Yosemite and send a message that America's National Parks are not for sale!
Just as we fought to safeguard Yosemite National Park generations ago, we can't do this alone. Will you act now to demand Congress oppose any land exchange or sale that allows for private development through Yosemite National Park?
